The annual spring mission - #SOLSC Day 4

I love March, when during the Slice of Life Challenge, I commit to writing on a daily basis. It's fun during 31 days of posts to watch the ebb and flow of my writing. Some days I'll be incredibly pleased with how a post turned out; other days I'll just be glad I posted anything at all. A huge thanks to the gang at Two Writing Teachers for hosting, organizing, and commenting on this ginormous event each year. I appreciate the community of writers you encourage the entire month of March, and all the Tuesdays the rest of the year. Thank you, thank you.

This March, I plan to connect as many posts as possible to my #OLW for the year - SAVOR.

"Karen, it's freezing out! Why in the world are you leaving the house in flip-flops?!! And isn't it snowing?!!"

My husband's words penetrated my consciousness, but I shrugged them off. I was on a spring mission.

Thursday night was my annual spring pedicure; the pedicure that occurs after my feet have been ignored for quite some time throughout the winter, and now need a lot of TLC (and a fresh coat of paint on the toes). So off I went outside in the snow no matter what my husband thought.

As I drove to the salon, the snow squalls that had been occurring, increased in intensity. When I walked from my car to the front doors of the salon, my head and coat (and toes and feet) were covered in snow. I entered at the same time as a gentleman, and he took one look at my flip-flop clad, snow-covered feet, and gave me a glance that clearly said, "You are crazy, lady!"

His disdainful look penetrated my consciousness, but I shrugged it off. I was on a spring mission.

I walked upstairs, and that is where the magic happened. Feet immersed in a very warm whirlpool bath. Back massaged from top to bottom by the comfy chair. Feet and legs massaged for what seemed like hours. Toenails painted a pretty pink color.

I savored every heavenly moment.

Spring mission accomplished.

I am also joining Ruth and the #Celebratelu group today as I celebrate spring and an amazing pedicure.

**Author's note: I realize that pedicures must be part of my writing territories. I looked back and noticed that pedicures have been one of my slices every year I've participated in #SOLSC. Thanks for indulging me. ;)

  1. One, I love that pedicures are one of your writing territories. :) I'm scheduled for one in about two weeks - and I need it! Bring on spring! Two, loved your slice. Felt like I was walking right with you.

  2. Spa day! Oh yes, I love my pedicures. I could feel the warmth of the soak and the massage. Need to get one scheduled soon.

  3. Yikes. My feet are aching just thinking about how cold yours must have been. It is freezing here today....a pedicure would feel mighty fine.

  5. I love the author's note -- I remembered your slice - thought it was you. Great to use in a demo lesson. All writers have territories and write on the same topic over time. So many teachers worry about students writing on the same topic many times and your reflection would be great!

  8. I've never had a pedicure before! But I have worn flip-flops in the snow before! Crazy South Dakota weather. I love that you've written about pedicures for every March challenge. This is such a finely crafted piece.

  9. I treat myself once a month to a mani/pedi and my salon gave me a gift that I think you will love Karen: pedi socks. They are brightly colored socks (I have two pairs) that you wear in and out of the salon when it is cold. I totally understand about wearing flip flops when you go for the pedicure. My socks keep me warm. Now I am not saying that they are great when walking in inches of snow but for a short in and out they work fine. I can't wait for my next pedicure. You made me start thinking about the chair massage and what wonderful experience it is.
