Things I Will Miss #2 - #SOLSC Day 13

I love March, when during the Slice of Life Challenge, I commit to writing on a daily basis. It's fun during 31 days of posts to watch the ebb and flow of my writing. Some days I'll be incredibly pleased with how a post turned out; other days I'll just be glad I posted anything at all. A huge thanks to the gang at Two Writing Teachers for hosting, organizing, and commenting on this ginormous event each year. I appreciate the community of writers you encourage the entire month of March, and all the Tuesdays the rest of the year. Thank you, thank you.

**This March, I plan to connect as many posts as possible to my #OLW for the year - SAVOR.**

As I move forward to that official retirement date, I have been thinking of those things I'll miss after retirement. From time to time during the month, I may be sharing some of those with you. Thanks for humoring me.

Tonight I find myself thinking about snow days.
I will miss snow days.

The anticipation...
Checking weather.com every 10 minutes when a storm is coming
Watching the evening news on every station until I hear the prediction I really want.
Joking with students about ice in the toilet and pjs inside out
Talking to colleagues about what to take home so I wouldn't jinx the snow

The actual snow day...
The call or text saying school is closed, and the elation that follows
An entire day free with the only item on the "to do" list - shovel the driveway
Long walks on fresh fallen snow when the world is hushed
Grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch
Curling up and reading in front of the fire

My reality tonight...
My hope as I approached retirement this year was that I would have one final snow day to savor and enjoy. The weather forecasters got me pretty excited for the possibilities of Stella, but I think I'll have to wait until next winter when I can pretend that every day is a "snow day" if I want. ;)

  2. I think if you just head back to this post, you can almost recapture the feeling. I love the pattern in your post, as well as you use specifics like grilled cheese to bring us into the world, and I'm sure you will enjoy retirement!

  5. I love the occasional snow day too. Lester's book SNOW DAY is one of my favorites. The kids are always shocked to hear that a teacher enjoys them as well.

  6. This makes me laugh. Oh, the anticipation of snow days. There is something about a day in which your entire to-do list is erased and you are given the gift of time. I'll send you a snow day text each day next year when I wake up. Bahahahaha.
