Spring Break Book Stockpiling - SOLC #5

I have a million things to do in the next three weeks before our spring break.  I have 52 progress reports to do, three sets of parent-teacher conferences, several professional development opportunities, and those are just my work commitments!

But I apparently am never too busy to start planning what I will be reading during spring break.  I have purchased some books from our local independent bookstore, I have pressed the Amazon Prime button several times for 2 day delivery, I have perused our local public library, and I have begun the process of stockpiling my Kindle library.

How exciting to know that three books I have been dying to read were delivered to me today -- two on my front doorstep and one on my Kindle.  I can't wait to dive into Requiem, The Runaway King, and The Center of Everything (March 5 was certainly a banner day in the world of children's book publishing)!!!

I am also very excited to read the books for both of my book clubs -- one group is reading Joy for Beginners, and the other group will be reading The Persian Pickle Club.  Both appear to have wonderful characters that I can savor and get to know while lazing around at the beach.

Then, I had to pick up a Mary Kay Andrews book while at the library.  She is such a fun chick lit author.  Savannah Breeze should be a fun romp for enjoyment.  And my addiction to the Scot Horvath series by Brad Thor continues... I want to try to read the rest of the series to fill in my gaps.  My fascination with spy books is amusing.  (Maybe this is derived from my desire to be Nancy Drew when I was younger???)

This spring break, our girls will be joining us for the last 3 1/2 days, so I have thought about what to put on the Kindle that we will all enjoy since we share an account.  Luckily, all four of us love to read.  In fact, my husband becomes a voracious reader of fiction when we are on vacation.  I love to see him unwind just a little bit more from his everyday stress with each book he completes.  I have downloaded the last two Baldacci books just for him (well for me too, but I read them over the holiday break).

So the book gathering has begun.  Some people plan their outfits for vacation, some plan the excursions they will take, and yet others plan their shopping adventures.  Me???  Well, I plan the reading that I want to accomplish in a week.  Those of you who know me are shocked, I know. :)

Thanks to Ruth and Stacey for hosting us again for the Slice of Life Challenge.  Head on over there to find out what other "slicers" have to say each and every day.

  2. I'm working on my spring break plan, too. I have so many books that I haven't had time to read because of my committee reading.

  4. Karen, this does make me laugh & I loved your introduction with all the things you need/have to do, but instead you begin gathering/planning your reading for break. I too have already begun at least thinking of it, & I'm not going anywhere! We are indeed book geeks, I guess. Thanks!

  5. Oh boy, Karen...now I've got more books to add to my list for Spring Break. I'm not going anywhere, but I will be home alone. I'm looking forward to having time to myself to get lost in some good books. Good luck in getting everything done in the next 3 weeks. :)

  6. I plan vacations around books too! Loved JOY FOR BEGINNERS; also loved THE SCHOOL OF ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS, another book by Erica Bauermeister. (there's a third one- THE LOST ART OF MIXING, but I didn't love that one quite as much). I'm reading GONE GIRL right now and enjoying that one too. Just keep thinking about that big ol pile and the three weeks will go fast!

  7. I love my Kindle for travel reading. I used to fill up way too much room in my suitcase with books. I do confess I still prefer professional reading in paper.

  8. I too got a couple of books from the great Kindle deal last week, thinking I would read for fun while in Florida. Not even close to thinking about clothes either.

  10. What books to take on a trip always supersedes any thinking about clothing to pack! I loved seeing the peek into your spring break reading. I read the Persian Pickle Club a long time ago and still remember it fondly. I'm headed to our annual book club retreat this month. So it's time for me to start thinking of recommendations for next year's list.
