Lake Time - SOLC #9

Where I stayed this weekend, there was a large sign on one of the walls that said, "I'm on Lake Time."  And from the minute I walked through the door of the house, that's exactly the time to which I adjusted.

Clocks did not dictate the way we led our lives during this girls' weekend.  When we woke up in the morning, that was time to read our books, drink coffee, and take in the views.  When we were hungry, that was meal time.  When the sun was shining so gorgeously, that was walking along the beach time to explore and look for sea glass.  When it started to cloud up, that was starting Downton Abbey marathon time.  An arbitrary time between our lunch dining and our dinner dining meant it was cocktails/appetizers time. When we got tired, that was bed time.  And every minute of the day was conversation time and friend time.

I'm realistic enough to know that every day can't be like that.  But this weekend made me realize I need to slow down to stop and smell those proverbial roses when I have the opportunity.  I spend far too much time letting carefully delineated "to do" lists dictate my life.  My goal is to learn to ignore those lists when I can and enjoy the life that is right there in front of me.

Thanks to Ruth and Stacey for hosting us again for the Slice of Life Challenge.  Head on over there to find out what other "slicers" have to say each and every day.

  1. Sounds like you had a heavenly weekend! It's funny, my slice today is the complete opposite of yours: how to prioritize those to do lists so something gets done! You're right though. Taking the time to enjoy life should be our highest priority.

  2. Girl Weekends are the BEST! I love how you weaved how fleeting time is throughout your piece. Stepping away from the daily grind helps us find our north star. I hope your to-do-list lands in the trash this week!

  3. I so agree with you. We need to keep breathing and making time to restore our energy.

  4. Again, this sounds so, so, so lovely. My book club used to do this all the time, and when I read your last post, I thought, "We used to do this a couple of times a year? I especially love this part, "But this weekend made me realize I need to slow down to stop and smell those proverbial roses when I have the opportunity. I spend far too much time letting carefully delineated "to do" lists dictate my life. My goal is to learn to ignore those lists when I can and enjoy the life that is right there in front of me." When I read your last post, I thought, "My book club used to do this a couple of times a year. When was our last weekend away?" We need to plan one soon. Thanks for this very important reminder.

  5. Lake time! I love it. Karen, it sounds like the perfect weekend. The structure of your sentences: when we were ___ it was ___ time, made the piece flow smoothly. I felt relaxed and on lake time right along with you. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. We probably could all use a little reminder that sometimes it is important to slow down.

  8. What a beautiful weekend to just BE; I loved reading this series of posts. Few things better than giving yourself permission to have "down time" to recharge with smart, fun girlfriends.
